Day coach or sleeper: how to decide
The decision between a day coach and a sleeper bus comes down to the length of the legs and where the touring party sleeps. Everything else follows from those two.
- Long overnight legs, show every night. When the only time to cover 600 kilometres is between load-out and the next load-in, a sleeper is the right tool.
- Legs of up to four or five hours, hotels booked anyway. A day coach is the better fit: real beds, a rested band, predictable arrival times and a vehicle without bunks.
- Fly-in shows and festival weekends. No tour bus at all, but vans and minibuses between airport, hotel and site.
- Mixed tours. A production can run a sleeper for the crew and book day vehicles and transfers for artists, management and guests. That second part is what we do.
What touring by day looks like
On a day-coach tour the band leaves the hotel after breakfast, arrives in the next city in the early afternoon, sound checks, plays and goes back to a hotel. The coach has tables, a galley, a toilet and luggage space for backline and merchandise; a trailer or support van is added when the gear needs it.
Every leg is planned against the EU driving and rest time rules. Under Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 a driver may normally drive nine hours a day and must take a 45-minute break after four and a half hours. Where a day runs longer we plan a second driver or a driver change, before the schedule reaches you.
What every tour needs, sleeper or not
Even a tour that travels on sleeper buses needs ground transport the buses do not cover. This is where we come in.
- Airport and station runs. Artists, management and guests flying in, tracked against flight data.
- Hotel to venue loops on show day. From load-in to load-out, to a day sheet or on call.
- Off-days. A vehicle on call for press, promo, a doctor or a day out.
- Support acts. Openers who travel without a bus of their own.
- Guests and VIPs. Unmarked vehicles, experienced drivers, kept separate from the crew shuttle.
Vehicles, from a van to a full-size coach
We match the vehicle to the touring party, not the other way round: a minivan for a solo artist, a minibus for a five-piece with crew, a midi or full-size coach for larger productions, plus support vehicles and trailers for backline. All vehicles meet the Euro 6 emission standard, which matters for low emission zones in cities such as Brussels and Amsterdam.

Across Europe, with one contract and one point of contact for every country on the tour. Our densest coverage is the corridor between Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands; our office is in Bochum, in the middle of it.

Send us the tour plan as it stands: cities, dates, number of people, amount of gear. We check the legs, propose vehicles and drivers and reply with a quote within 24 hours. Short-notice requests are usually covered within 24 to 48 hours.

What is the difference between a sleeper bus and a day coach for a band?
A sleeper bus, also called a nightliner, drives overnight while band and crew sleep in bunks on board. A day coach drives by day with a professional driver while the touring party sleeps in hotels. TOUR LOUNGE provides day coaches, minibuses and vans, not sleeper buses.
Do you rent sleeper buses?
No. We organise ground transport by day and every transfer around the shows. For tours with long overnight legs a sleeper is the right tool, and those tours still need airport runs, show-day shuttles and off-day vehicles, which we provide.
Can we hire a tour bus with a driver for a European tour?
Yes. All our vehicles come with professional drivers. Legs are planned against EU driving and rest time rules, with a second driver or a driver change where a day runs long.
How much gear fits on the bus?
That depends on the vehicle. Backline and merchandise travel in the luggage bay; for larger set-ups we add a trailer or a support van. Tell us roughly what you carry and we size the vehicles around it.
Do you cover single shows and festival weekends?
Yes. Airport, hotel and site transfers for fly-in shows and festivals are booked individually, without a full tour.
How fast can you quote?
Within 24 hours of receiving your tour plan. Short-notice vehicles are usually available within 24 to 48 hours across Europe.
Will you tell us which artists you have driven?
No. We work for artists and productions who value discretion and we name no one. We start with a fixed-price pilot and a debrief with numbers instead.
